Lia (Lehrer) Goldfarb
The Bar Mitzvah Site is a project of Lia (Lehrer) Goldfarb, a bar/bat mitzvah tutor in suburban Chicago. Lia is a graduate of Northwestern University, where she studied journalism and Hebrew. She continued on at the Spertus Institute of Jewish Learning and Leadership, where she received a Master of Arts in Jewish Professional Studies degree and a Certificate in Jewish Leadership.
She has been a bar/bat mitzvah tutor since 2002, at Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah in Wilmette, Ill., and at Temple Jeremiah in Northfield, Ill. She has worked with students of all skill levels.
Lia attended Solomon Schechter Day School from kindergarten through eighth grade, attended Hebrew High at Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah and was an active USY chapter president and Chicago regional board member.
In college, she was the leader of the Conservative Minyan at Northwestern’s Fiedler Hillel Center, where she also served as executive vice president. She later went on to work as the Associate Youth Community Director at North Suburban Synagogue Beth El in Highland Park, Ill., and then to be the Membership and Communications Director at Temple Jeremiah in Northfield, Ill. In 2011, she co-founded Windy City Minyan, an independent minyan for 20- and 30-somethings in the Lakeview area.
Lia lives in Glenview, Ill. with her husband and young daughters.
